I have had my 8 year old son since his birth, his mother has been in prison most of this time. She has not shown any interest in him at all. She is now on escape from a work release facility. How do I get full custody of him when I can't afford a lawyer?

You can file a petition under chapter 600A for abandonment and terminate her parental rights. The problems I see are that you don't have legal custody, so you'd have to get that into place. You really do need an attorney to handle this for you.
