Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Iowa

I used to be a member of a cult.I would like to write about my experience there but I don't want to be sued for libel or defamation.Is this possible?

You can publish the truth but you have to be able to prove it's the truth. Can you do that? Is the book really worth the risk?
