Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Iowa

I have been receiving anonymous text messages demanding money. They are coming from a website called textem.net. I corresponded with them in regard to this, and they told me to get a subpeona and they will get all information they have (likely, an IP address of the sender of these messages). I am wondering how I need to go about getting a subpeona issued. I don't know who is sending, so I do not have a trial or depositions of any kind pending. I may follow through with filing charges, however, I may be able to scare them into quitting. But, I need to know who it is before I can do this. Do I need to have an attorney in order to get this subpeona issued, or can I do it civily myself? Thank you for your anticipated help in this!

You need to file a lawsuit or institute other legal process through the courts to gain the power of the subpoena.

Textem will allow you to block messages to your mobile phone. Have you done this?

If you think you are a victim of attempted extortion I suggest you contact your local police department.

Also consider filing a criminal complaint and allowing the prosecutor and police to investigate. They have the power of a subpoena. Steve
