Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Iowa

My wife and I have furniture, and other belongings that belong to her mother, stored at our house. She was supposed to retrieve them over a week ago. We have them stacked in our living room, and now they wont come and get them. Can I serve them with a hand written paper stating that if they are not removed from my house within the next two days, there will be a 50 dollar a day storage fee imposed before they will be allowed to remove the items?

Rent a storage locker. Put the property in it. Pay for the first month, send Mom the key, and tell her that after one month it's her problem.
