Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Iowa

I live in Iowa we moved into a rental property 9 months ago, after we signed the lease we started noticing fleas but didn't think anything of it, then we got a puppy and he automatically got fleas after bringing him into the home, we discussed this with the landlord and they stated there were fleas in the home before we moved in but they bombed, the bombing didn't do any good but we decided to try and take care of the problem we have treated the house and the dog, the dog is now and outside dog and it is now winter once we turned on our heat that got so bad we are not able to live in the home, my youngest daughter is bit up so bad it looks like she has chicken pox, everything i have read states they could have been there all along and by my turning my heat on triggered there hatching and that they can live in a egg like state for up to a year and the extreme heat can trigger them to come out of it, my landlord is refusing to help with the situation even though they have both stated they were there before we moved in, i have tried bombs, sprays and powders and ever home made remedies and nothing is working. i would like to know if it is legal to break my lease over this, please some one give me advice of what i can do i just want out of this house, before my children get really sick from all the flea bites they are getting. (we are currently not living in the home and have even thrown away furniture because of the situation)

You might break the lease but the landlord would be entitled to sue you for the balance and it might wreck your credit.
