Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Iowa

I currently own my home. My boyfriend is currently trying to buy his first home as well. Should things progress between us, how long does he have to own the house before selling it as it will be his primary residence until then? If He sells it as a land contract is it any different?

Unless there is some sort of a restriction, he can sell it the same day he buys it. There are some programs which may restrict this right, so he will want to discuss this with the attorney who represents him at closing. And make sure he hires his own real estate attorney to represent him, even if (when) the real estate agent or loan officer says it is "not necessary." Believe me, it is. Anyone who tells you differently is more interested in getting his or her commission check than making sure you interests are protected. Your boyfriend will probably be prohibited from selling the property via agreement or contract for deed by the mortgage he signs. Again, make sure he discusses all of this with the attorney he hires. And, if you decide to co-own a property, make sure you have an "exit" plan, such as a partnership agreement, just in case things progress the wrong way.
