Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Iowa

demotion based on harassement

I have worked for a government agency for 5 years. In that time I have had several raises and perfect reviews based on job performance. I recently found pornographic pictures, printed by the CEO, jammed in the company copy machine. I turned them over to a supervisor and, after expressing my concern, was told to ignore it. I had a job review 2 weeks later (unscheduled) with the CEO and was told that my job performance is subpar, my work efficiency is at 50% and due to my attitude he has received several complaints about me, and let me know that I am not well liked by my co-workers. I have never talked to my CEO about the pictures because it makes me very uncomfortable, nor did I have any idea my job performance was in question, as I said, I have had nothing but perfect reviews for 5 years, and have been told by the CEO prior to the incident that I am well liked by everyone. I did find out after emailing the supervisor that I turned the pictures over to, that our email is being monitored by the CEO. Do I have reason to believe I am being pushed out in order to keep my mouth shut? Do I have a case for wrongful termination in an ''at will'' state, or a case for wrongful termination?

I'm not sure it is in your best interest to wait until they fire you, assuming that will be the end result. You may wish to file suit prior to then or ask for a meeting with your current supervisor to ask why the bad reviews. That way you might obtain good evidence to support a sex discrim. claim. You should make notes right after the meeting as to what was said. Steve Lombardi
