Legal Question in Tax Law in Iowa

My father has been living with my grandma for over 15 years taking care of her and paying the mortgage on her house. They have recently had a falling out and she moved out and in with my uncle. My dad stayed in the house and continued paying all the bills. It has recently been determined that my grandma has to have full time care, however in order to qualify cannot have anything in her name and is going to let the state take her house. My dad is disabled and has no where to go if they take the house. We've looked into low rent housing but everything is full. Although he has been paying bills, it is out of a joint account that he and my grandma have together, so he can't really prove that it's his money that has been paying the bills. Does he have any leg to stand on when it comes to the state taking the house or getting any of his money back from my grandma's estate?

I think that you need to hire a lawyer who understands Medicaid law. The sooner the better.
