Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Iowa

Husband and wife own a home as tenants in common. She dies, the will leaves her half of the home to her husband. Does ownership automatically go to him or does it have to go through probate?

All estates have to go through the probate court in Iowa. The property interest is property of the estate. There may be debts to pay out of the estate.

Parenthetically I don't understand why people are so antsy about probate court. All it is is court mandated supervision of the estate-it makes people responsible and honest.
