Legal Question in Family Law in Japan

Forced Marriage

A girl that I have been with has become accidentally pregnant (even though numerous precautions were taken.) We did not previously have a serious relationship. Now we are arranging for her to have an abortion in Japan. She is extremely worried about a possible problem occuring with the procededure, and has stated that ''I must take responsibility'' if she becomes unable to become pregnant in the future- by marrying her. I have never said she has to get an abortion, but I told her that supporting a family on my current and near future salary is impossible. But I have said many times over that if she must have the baby I will do what I can to support her. If I do not agree to marry her, she says that she will not have the abortion. Can she force me to marry her if/when she does have the abortion? I'm beginning to question the real motive for her wanting to get married. I feel like I am seriously being taken advantage of.

Re: Forced Marriage

Certainly she cannot force you to marry her in the U.S. I do not know what the law is in Japan. I would urge you to marry her and have the baby if possible. This is by far the least expensive way.

Re: Forced Marriage

Nope....can't force a marriage and it's entirely her choice (legally) to have an abortion or not. Sounds like blackmail.
