Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Kansas

Law Suits and Releasing to the Media

I want to know at what time can the media be told of a Malpractice lawsuit? If I am the person sueing a Doctor and the general public needs to know and the media would have a hay-day.. when can i release my 'story' to the media?

Once the suit is filed? Once the suit is settled?

Re: Law Suits and Releasing to the Media

I'm going to answer two questions - when you can, and when you should. You can give a filed lawsuit to the media anytime. It is a public record. Same for a settlement, UNLESS there is a confidentiality agreement. When you should might be a much different answer. Most good lawyers don't try their case in the press. If the case is newsworthy, let the media find it themselves. Hope that helps. Best of luck.
