Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Kansas

Who inherits the estate if there is no will

My mother and step-father bought a home(paid off) together 30 years ago. My mother passed 7 years ago. My step-father passed a week ago. My sister and myself, are the survivors, plus his (step-fathers) mother, sister and brother. He also, has two teenage and adult illegitimate son's. My question, is without a will, who is the legitimate heirs (my sister and myself) or his surviving family members, or the illegitimate sons.

Re: Who inherits the estate if there is no will

Your step-father's natural and adopted children, and the children of any deceased child, inherit without a will. If your stepfather is not your biological or adoptive father, you are not his heirs. If he has natural or adoptive children, or grandchildren, whether within or out of wedlock, his parents and siblings do not inherit without a will.
