Legal Question in Criminal Law in Kentucky

I've been paying restitution for a felony assault charge. If the victim agrees to it, will the court allow me to pay him off for a lesser amount in a lump sum. For instance, if me and the victim originally agreed on $15,000 over the next five years in monthly payments, the papers were signed making it official-- would the court after the fact allow me to settle it for $10,000 in one lump sum if the victim will agree to it? It would be a way for him to get alot of money at once and a way for me to save money in the long run. If this is possible what steps would need to be taken?

Ultimately, it would depend on the judge. I would not recommend that you do this without the judge's approval and the entry of an Order stating that your restitution obligation is satisfied in full if you pay the $10,000.

Be prepared for the judge and/or the prosecutor to ask why, if you can come up with $10,000 now to pay in a lump sum, you should not be be required to pay the additional $5,000 as well.
