Legal Question in Social Security Law in Kentucky

SSI and the elderly inheriting money

My mother is on SSI and may inherit some property from a dying sibling. My first question is does she need to alert the government of her new found land ownership (which is in another state than where she lives, so she will be selling it) and the other is, how can she possibly keep her benefits as well as any monies she may receive from the sale of the land.
