Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Louisiana

My mechanic's home burned with my car in the garage.

My mechanic's home caught fire and the blaze destroyed my car.The mechanic rented and the owner's insurance will not pay for the car.I made an attempt to regain possession of the vehicle prior to the fire but police told me it was a civil matter and i had to take him to court. So i was left with no option but to leave the car where it was.Now i need to know, who legaly should be held accountable for the damage to my property?

ps If i do have a case what type of lawyer should i contact? To this point no lawyer will accept my case.

Re: My mechanic's home burned with my car in the garage.

What is the value of your car? Usually the more valuable the car the more conventional the owner/mechanic relationship. If you took the car to a regular garage and the mechanic took it home from there, then he is an employee of the garage and they are responsible for his actions.

If he is a "shade tree" mechanic acting privately for you, then he is liable, but what does he own that you can collect the debt from?

If the value of the car is low, then you may want to use a "small claims" court. You won't need a lawyer there. This may be a situation where attorney's fees are higher than your loss.
