Legal Question in Immigration Law in Louisiana

misdemeanor charge-GC

I was arrested 10 years ago and

charged with drunk,Disorderly

conduct, disturbing the peace and

resisting arrest by refusing

handcuffs. I was a grad student and

the Judge let us go after college

professors intervened. (i spent 1

night in jail). Court disposition shows

''no contest'', sentence reduced to

time served, release today''. How

would this affect a AOS

interview/GC? Could this make me

ineligible?

Re: misdemeanor charge-GC

Dear Inquirer:

Generally, only "crimes involving moral turpitude" (CIMTs) render a person inadmissible to green card status. One misdemeanor conviction for disorderly conduct should fall under the "petty offense" exception to criminal grounds of inadmissibilty, assuming it is a CIMT.

I recommend that you email [email protected] or visit www.hanlonlawgroup.com if you would like to schedule an appointment for a confidential consultation to discuss this matter further.
