Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Louisiana

Letter of Teatamentary

My brother was a Katrina evacuee who resided in Austin, Tx after the storm and later discoverd he had liver cancer. He died on 9/23/07 leaving all of his worldly goods to me in a hand written will and signed by him of which I have a copy of. I went to the bank with the will but was told I needed the letter of testamentary. Can I file pro-se in Louisiana where I reside and will it satisfy the requirements for Texas and how do I start the process?

Re: Letter of Teatamentary

Since he lived in Texas for 2 years after his evacuation he was probably a Texas resident and Texas law will probably apply. The only exception would be that inheritence of any land is always subject to the laws of the state where the land is.

Discuss it with a Texas Lawyer. It probably won't be as expensive as you think.
