Life insurance and retirement proceeds

If the deceased did not name a beneficiary on these policies, who has the right to them ( spouse and/or children)?

The proceeds would become part of the decedent's estate, and would go to the legatees under in the decedent's will, or to the intestate heirs if there is no will.
