Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Louisiana

Is Succession Necessary?

Father has recently passed away. Mother still alive. 2 adult children in another state. Assets include several CD's w/Father, Mother and both children listed as owners of CD's. No real estate involved. 1 car in Father's name. No debt. There is a will. 1 life insurance policy.

Is there a need to open a Succession? Is there anything we have to do legally due to his death?

Re: Is Succession Necessary?

It depends, basically on the value of the life insurance policy. Motor vehicles has a way to transfer vehicles without a succession. You need to consult an attorney with all the details.
