Hospital bill

Once i have been served with a summons can i negotiate with the plaintiff before it goes for a hearing?

Yes, you are encouraged to. If this is small claims, you will be given the chance to try to settle the matter the day of the hearing. But if you can get it resolved before, then you might be able to avoid even going to court.

Unless you have a defense as to why the bill is not owed, then you might just settle and try to get it reduced or a payment plan set up that you can meet.
