Re: legl seperation

What is usually called a "legal separation" in Maine is actually a judicial separation. It is very similar to a divorce and shares much of that procedure. A judicial separation is obtained by serving your spouse with a complaint for separation and filing the complaint at the appropriate district court. As part of the separation, the court can divide up the assets and debts, determine support and can even determine parental rights and responsibilitis if there are children of the marriage.
