Legal Question in Consumer Law in Maryland

Workmanship

Hello,

We have a contract with a Pennsylvania company to build a new garage, which is in progress. We are in Maryland. The contract does not explicitly discuss the topic of workmanship, although the company web site stresses the “quality” of their over all work. In fact, one web page mentions the word “quality” eight times. Are there one or more Maryland Laws to protect the consumer in such instances? That is, is the consumer legally protected to expect and receive a “reasonable” quality of workmanship?

Thanks,

Re: Workmanship

Yes the customer can expect workmanlike conduct and performance. A quality guarantee can be effected especially when in writing. The measure of performance with a written quality guarantee that is not otherwise specifically stated in writing is a workmanlike standard. If you have damages then another matter applies entirely. If you are having problems with the performance of a construction contractor, I am available to assist you. Contractors must perform to acceptable zoning standards, adhere to contractual agreements, provide for proper licensure, show bond if necessary, and a host of other requirements. (410) 799-9002
