Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Maryland

validation of a debt

I requested validation of a debt from a credit agency. What they sent was a itimized copy of some statements. now does this constitute validation i thought they had to send a copy of the sighned contract or somthing with my signiture on it. After reciving the statement i sent another dispute letter asking for better validation and i recieved a summons to go to court. can they do this I thought that before they can persue further collection they had to validate the debt? Am i not understanding the law ?Thanks--name removed--

Re: validation of a debt

The credit agency is a business, and not a court of law. They have been given documentation, which they have forwarded to you, that the debt is owed. If you still challenge it, that is for a court to decide. It sounds like you know you owe the debt but want the credit reporting agency to act like a court and rule for you. That is not their role.
