Legal Question in Criminal Law in Maryland

My boyfriend was convicted of burglary in Maryland and served time in jail. Since he has gone through rehab, gotten a full time job, worked his way up to management and started going back to school at the local community college. I am concerned that his record will keep him from getting into a good career and us building a future together. Can he get his charge expunged? What careers can he pursue? Will this have to follow him the rest of his life? He is a good guy and made some dumb mistakes while young and under the influence of drugs. I just don't know if I can continue in a serious relationship with someone that will always have to work in food service.... also I think this has effected his motivation even more than me. He's been taking classes but hasn't chosen a career.. he seems to think that he won't be able to get a real career underway with his past haunting him.

Convictions may not be expunged. Perhaps if the conviction were obtained in violation of the law, then it might be challenged via postconviction or coram nobis. However, investigating whether the conviction is vulnerable and then trying to get it vacated involve significant time and resources. Usually convictions are not overturned.
