What is the definition of a life sentence?

a life sentence could have different meanings. If the sentence was life without the possibility of parole, ie for 1 st degree murder, then it means the person will die in prison. On the other hand, if the sentence is life with the possibility of parole, then the person will have the possibility to be released at some time in the future, depending on the parole board.
