MD does not recognize suits based upon a breach of an agreement to marry. However, if he expressly agreed to pick up some of the cost of the wedding and you incurred the costs in reliance on his promise to pay you back, you could pursue a claim on that basis. I would think that some of your advanced payments, such as for a caterer, would be refundable if you were able to cancel a month before the wedding.
