The court will require a parent to pay child support based upon his income potential. In other words, a parent cannot do what you suggest your husband is doing--deliberately lower his income to avoid paying a fair amount of support. If you can produce evidence of this, especially showing he has the ability to earn at a higher rate, a judge will base his child support obligation on that higher rate. This can be complicated, so make sure you consult an experienced family attorney to help you with this.
