Re: Legal Separation

In MD, you can obtain a limited divorce, which is sort of like a legal separation, if you can establish one of several grounds. The simplest is being voluntarily separated. If there are children or real estate involved, you would be well advised to consult an attorney who is experienced in this kind of law and can protect your rights. Everyone's situation is unique, and trying to use a form can get you in a lot of trouble.

If there aren't child or property issues involved, you really don't need a legal separation. If you've been separated for a year by mutual consent, you can file for an uncontested divorce.
