Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

pallimony

I am not married but have lived with my fiancee for 11 years. We bought a house in 1997 (my name is on the house papers). I think he may be on his way out of the relationship, so my question is; where does that leave me?

Re: pallimony

You have an interest in the jointly owned house, but unless you two can reach an agreement as to what the value of your respective interests are, you may end up in court on that. The court would look at the relative contributions of each of you to the house expenses (mortgage, taxes, upkeep) to determine how to split up the property. As to other property, anything you bought together would also be subject to distribution. Otherwise you take what was yours and vice versa.
