Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maryland

I didn't pay my lawyer all of the money that he was owed. I thought he did a horrible job and I should really report him to the AGC. But now, after over a year of not hearing from him, he is suing me for the the money I supposedly owe him. When does the statute of limitations expire for something like this? I was thinking one year, but I guess I might be wrong.

The statute of limitations on a collection case is 3 years from when you either made the last payment or acknowledged the debt. If you think he overcharged you, many county bar associations have fee arbitration procedures that you can utilize without cost. An AGC complaint would have to be based upon a violation of the code of professional responsibility. Of course, if you feel his representation of you was negligent and that resulted in the outcome of your case, you could countersue him for malpractice, but you would need another attorney willing to support your claim to prevail.
