Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Maryland

Senior citizens rights to early termination of rental lease

My Mom has a lease through Oct.2005.She lives in Balto md. and has recently had an auto accident and cannot live by herself and recuperate...Can her apt rental lease be broken if medical reasons are critical for her to be with me in Tx. to care for her. I have already taken off work to get her to Tx with her Dr's full approval and recommendation as will her dr. provide any necessary paperwork to aid my mom. Her apt complex states she will be responsible for 2 months rent at time she early vacates.

Her apt complex is Excalibur at Avalon in zip code 21208.Please advise

Re: Senior citizens rights to early termination of rental lease

The first source of your rights under the lease is the lease agreement itself. Review it to determine what would be owed to the landlord when a lease is terminated early. You should also send the landlord a certified letter indicating that you intend to vacate and that you would like a walk-through of the apartment. This way you secure the return of your security deposit.
