Lease
If the person never signed a residental lease agreement but signed a rental application. Is this person responsible for the rent occured during that time. Only one of the individual signed the lease and the other person never signed the lease.

Only persons signing the lease would be liable for rent for any period remaining in the lease after occupancy ended, but if you lived there, you may well be responsible for the rent for that time.
