Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maryland

Living in unsafe environment

I live in an area where there is alot of drug selling on my door step. I was unaware of this type of traffic when I signed the lease. I feel unsafe, and am in constant fear when I go to work, and come home. I have contacted the property about this issue, and I have contacted the police. Do I have any rights?

While the landlord is no guarantor of your safety, and is not responsible for the fact that you moved in without knowledge of the danger in the area, he is responsible for taking reasonable measures to keep non-residents out of the building, such as by providing a reasonable security system and maintaining it.
