Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maryland

Landlord signed new 1 yr lease 2/23/01, now wants me to move by June 1, 2001.

Feb. 2001, I received a renewal notice from my landlord. He had already signed and dated it 2/23/01. His attached note stated that he needed to know my intentions before 3/30/01. The old lease expires 5/01. I mailed my signed and dated the 2001 -2002 copy back to him 3/23/01. He contacted 4/22/ 0r 4/23/01 stating that he is now ready to sale the property because of the market conditions. He stated that he had not thought about that before signing the new lease. He wants to put the townhome on the market June 1, 2001. What are my options? Thank you.

The renewal you signed would extend the lease for one year. Your landlord is entitled to sell the property, however, unless the lease provides otherwise, the new owners would take the property subject to your lease and you could continue to occupy the property until the renewed lease expires.

You could also negotiate a buyout by your landlord. In order for you to leave the property early, your landlord would compensate you an agreed to amount.
