Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Maryland

My phone was stolen by an employee of a car rental company after it had fallen in a (broken) opening in the rented vehicle. The individual told my family the vehicle had been taken to a shop and the phone could not be reached but later his boss told us it had not been done. After speaking to a higher authority, who had a camera pole stuck down in the vehicle, we were told that the phone was not there and that there was nothing they could do. How much luck do I have with pressing charges with no "concrete evidence" of theft?

If the phone was in fact taken by the rental employee, the rental company ought to confront him. Assuming he denies it, the service provider ought to be able to determine what use has been made of the phone since you lost it, which may lead to its wherabouts. If you want to pursue this you should go in that direction and then if they come up with something you could file a police complaint and they will determine if it is worth investigating as a crime.
