Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Maryland

sexual harassment outside the workplace

The other night I was on the metro in Maryland and was harassed by some guys after I told them I wasn't interested and have a boyfriend. For the next ten mintues, until we reached the end of the line, they continued to make extremely sexual and disturbing remarks about me. I felt very nervous and was scared that they would harm me if I tried to do anything to defend myself, such as call security. Is there any law against sexual harassment in a non-work enviornment? Is there any legal recourse I could have taken against them had I called security or even the police? I hate that they are walking around thinking that it's ok for them to talk to women like that.

Re: sexual harassment outside the workplace

If you felt threatened by these harassers, you should've summoned Metro police (even if you had to move away from the harassers to do it) who are charged with securing the safety of all passengers on their trains.
