Re: disposition of property

A valid will not only disposes of all of a person's property at the time of their death, but it also serves the streamline the probate process by eliminating needless expense and difficulty for the next of kin. A will can also accomplish other things such as making provision for having property held in trust for minor children until they reach the age of majority (or some other age, if desired).

A will that is inexpertly drawn can become a source of litigation and friction among the surviving family members, despite the best intentions of the person who drew his own will.

Perhaps there are some life events where it is appropriate to take a do-it-yourself approach to legal matters. In my opinion, disposing of all your worldly assets is not such an event. See an estate planning lawyer. It probably will cost less than you think, and after your death your family will be very grateful.

Re: disposition of property

There are a number of resources available should you desire a "do-it-yourself" will.

I do not advise using such an approach. Each person's situation is different. The idea behind

a last will and testament is to pass property after death in an orderly fashion. Having a last will and testament

that does not address the requirements of law may result in a failed will and then there may be legal battles over the property and other matters.

It is best that you contact an attorney for advice specific to your needs. The cost may not be as much as you would anticipate. My approach is to send you information so that you

begin the laborous process of pulling together all of your affairs and then the process of devising a plan begins. Contact me at (410) 799-9002 should you want to move forward.
