Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Maryland

Since my fiance' mother had been dead for five yrs. Would a recent insurance policy addressed to the estate have to go through probate even though the estate was settled.

Contact the personal representative (your fiance?) of the estate to determine whether there are still unpaid bills chargeable to the estate. If there are, the proceeds of this insurance policy should be used to first pay these bills and whatever is left over could then be distributed to the beneficiaries.
