Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts

After a collection agency received my cease and desist letter, they sent back a letter stating that they will honor it but will continue to report to the credit reporting agencies as unpaid. I have paid the original creditor 1/2 the money and plan to pay the rest with them and not the agency. How do I stop them from reporting or are they not allowed to report after receiving the letter.

They are permitted and required to report the status of the account accurately. Your original creditor has sent your account to a collection department for collection. If you have a problem with that fact, you will need to take it up with your original creditor.
