Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Massachusetts

verbal agreement

I loaned a friend $17,000, they have paid back $3025. They have suddenly stopped returning my calls and I have now found out that they moved to OH. I have emails saying they will pay me from March, but nothing in writting. Where do I go from here?

Re: verbal agreement

Assuming that your friend has any assets or means of paying an eventual judgment, you will want to hire an attorney to file suit.

Please feel free to contact my office if you would like to schedule a consultation.

Re: verbal agreement

As we say, it is worth the paper that it was not written on. Having said this, this is an action that you would file in district court because it is over 2,000. The cost of filing and service are a little over $250.00.

Re: verbal agreement

Retain an attorney to review the emails and any other evidence of the debt and advise how and where to pursue it. Good Luck!
