Everyone residing in the Commonwealth is required to have health insurance. Insurance for the child is a joint obligation of the parents, but the parent with the means to provide insurance will most likely be ordered to pay for it in the event there is a dispute between the parents. If the parents are no longer together, and neither one has the means to provide health insurance, then the state will pick up the tab and then come after the non-custodial parent for child support.
