Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

If I sign a lease with my husband and then I move out in the middle of the lease, am I legally responsible for paying part of the lease? Ideally I would like to move out in the middle to a new apartment, and make my husband pay that lease. Also, will I be able to sign a new lease if my name is on the old one?

I would have to review your lease, but if you are jointly and severally liable for payments under the lease, then you continue to be responsible even if you move out. Even if your landlord promises not to seek any further rent from you, your husband would still have a right to seek compensation from you since you promised to pay 1/2 the rent. If you are moving toward a divorce situation, I strongly recommend that you speak with an attorney.
