Legal Question in Family Law in Massachusetts

My son was named after his father. He does not have contact with his father and has not had any for over seven years. His father at one point took him and I had too fight too get him back. My son wants too change his name am I going too need his fathers consent?

Your son upon reaching the age of 18 can change his name without anyone's consent.

if your son is not 18 and is over 14, you can file a Petition and your husband can object, it will be for the court to decide at that point whether the change of name meets court criteria and is the best interest of the child. The court will consider the child's wishes.
