Legal Question in Employment Law in Massachusetts

Is it legal for a company (Barnes & Noble) to set employees schedule to purpsely not give them a break-time. For example, the schedules are now set as follows: 5:02PM to 9:00PM. The management then says that you don't get a break because you didn't work 4 hours. Is this legal??

Yes, unless there is a contract that obligates B&N to provide a work break. Under Mass law, an employer must pay at least 3 hours of work if you are required to work and must provide a 1/2 meal break if you work over six hours.
