Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Massachusetts

Ok, so I just ended my lease with my former landlord. The lease was from May 1st 2009 to May 1st 2010. I had to pay an $800 deposit. I called him asking about it and he told me that he wasn't going to return it to me. He said that the fridge was dirty and the stove was a little dirty. After a year of living there it is obvious that it is going to be a little bit dirty. Also i dropped off my 30 day notice on April 3rd dated and signed. He told me that I lied and that he did not recieve the notice until the 19th of April. I want to take him to court because I need that money but I feel like because it is going to come down to his word against mine that he will win. Can someone offer me some advice or a little help? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Retain an attorney to demand return of your deposit and chances are that attorney will find multiple violations by this landlord that may not only prevent his keeping the deposit but may render him liable to you for multiple damages and attorney fees. Good Luck

John Murray is exactly right. I would hire an attorney, unless you are familiar with the specific requirements of the Massachusetts security deposit law, and available remedies.
