Without more information, I cannot give a definitive answer. I assume you are a student at the school. Students are charged for housing, if they charged you the incorrect amount and are trying to give you time to pay it, that is not unfair. If you simply did not pay rent you were supposed to pay, then they are being even more reasonable. You should get a copy of your housing agreement. If the mistake is in the agreement you signed, that is a contract and they are bound by it. But if the contract says you were to pay the difference of $3.400 for the period in question, then they are not being unfair or improper.

First, you need to determine, why you are being charged the additional amount. If it was a billing mistake or your failure, then the Second step is to set-up an appropriate payment plan. If the mistake is in the contract and they put in the wrong amount, it is a contract and they should not charge you the difference or threaten your attendance, as the contract amount even in error, is binding upon them.
