Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Massachusetts

If a family member dies from what I believe to be medical negligence, and I wish to pursue legal action, how important is it for me to request an autopsy? Can I request one at my local hospital or does a doctor have to request this for me? One last question, do I have to pay for this or will Medicare or Medicaid cover the cost?

An autopsy is very important. If the circumstances surrounding the death are arguably suspicious, I suggest that you call the MA Medical Examiner's office ( 617-267-6767) and request an autopsy which would be free of charge.
