Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Massachusetts

A friend has stayed in his father-in-law's house in return for paying property taxes for over 30 years. Now the father-in-law plans to evict his son-in-law. What rights does the son-in-law have in regard to all that tax money over all those years?

Merely the right to claim it was rent and require the eviction to follow the legal requirement to evict a tenant at will which is what he is. Good luck!

I agree with Attorney Murrary. Your friend will have all of the rights of a legal tenant, and he should argue that the tax payments were essentially rent payments paid directly to a third party.
