Legal Question in Appeals and Writs in Michigan

Garnishment payments

I recently filed a writ for garnishment of wages against the defendment. I do not yet have the paperwork in hand as the employers have received the papers only two days ago. Now the ex-boyfriend who originally said he was going to make the payments and didn't (which is why I filed the garnishment) is trying to come to me and make additional payments. He may or may not know of the garnishment being filed. Is it legal to take payments from a third party in addition to taking garnishment payments from the defendents employer?

Re: Garnishment payments

Take the money. If he overpays you can always pay him back. After all, he made you wait long enough.
