Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Michigan

my home mortgage was with countrywide, and the problems of a variable rate was putting my payments out of reach of our combined fixed s.s.dissability income. they had grown from $300 a month to over $600.last year Countrywide voluntarily sent us refi papers to lower our payments to $300 a month for 7 years fixed. well we jumped on it. that was in November last year. in februrary we recieved new payment book for $500 a month from bank of america, they purshased countrywide and decide to redo our loan due to a technicality, they would not recognise our refi so by the time it became news to us we were way behind. Now we told them we could not and would not accept this new contract, but they keep adding the difference to our past due balance. tell me is this legal? I thought when they bought the contract they accepted the terms, not just decide to do it the way they want it. of course now betweem our past due amount reportd to the credit bureau we couldn't get a refinance we can afford anyway now. what do we do?
